PALMYRA — Fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers combined with ready-to-eat tasty treats and live entertainment will be on tap every week at the borough’s new farmers market.
The market also will feature local businesses and food trucks every Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at and around the bandshell at Cinnaminson Avenue and West Broad Street.
The market opened last Thursday and will be open through August.
“It was incredible. It had such a good vibe,” Borough Councilwoman Mindie Weiner said of the first week. “It’s a huge community event,” she said.
Weiner joined fellow council members Lewis Yetter and Bernadette Russell in bringing the farmers market to fruition.
Borough Administrator John Gural was pleased with the opening.
“I think the first week went great. Lots of good food and lots of happy people. Great music and weather, too,” Gural said.
The market will also offer healthy snacks for families and even dogs, along with desserts and dishes made to order from food trucks.
Apparently those in attendance last week came with an appetite.
“People like good food, and not everybody wants to go to a chain restaurant,” Weiner said. “People want quality food, and that’s what these trucks are bringing.”
Nearly a dozen vendors also went home happy with how well the market was received, she said. “We had people buying at 4 o’clock and people buying at ten of 8 p.m.,” Weiner said.
If last week is any indication, customers may want to get to the market as early as possible.
“The guacamole people sold out by 6:45, the doughnut people sold all of their 200 doughtnuts, and two whole food trucks sold out,” Weiner said.
