Strong & Capable Boudoir Session

Today we bring you the lovely Emily E., a musician, artist, and avid bookworm! “I play the flute, and make steampunk/goth jewelry and art. I love going to plays, concerts, and museums. I spend a lot of time reading books for fun, and books for work. I volunteer with several veteran groups, and a group centered around uplifting women in my industry.” Emily booked herself a boudoir session with us to celebrate her strength and for a boost of confidence. “I did this for myself, because I needed to see myself not just as strong and capable, but also beautiful. Of course, my partner loves the photos, but this was a much-needed boost for me.”

Emily met us in the South Jersey photography studio the morning of her boudoir session and first sat for hair and makeup with her name twin, our amazing artist Emily! Emily E. told us while she isn’t used to wearing dramatic colors on her eyes, she felt her hair and makeup turned out beautifully. “Emily did my hair and makeup, and she did such a beautiful job. I usually don’t wear a lot of color on my eyes but what she created was absolutely stunning. Hair was so gorgeous, and the curls really set off the color of my hair.”

After a morning of pampering, it was time to slip into Emily’s look. She brought a lingerie set, some jewelry, and a corset all purchased from Amazon. Emily told us she was going for a Steampunk vibe that turned Victorian, but she absolutely loved the result. “I was going for a sultry steampunk-ish vibe, and I think we captured a rather indulgent Victorian look that I’m super happy with.”

While Emily admits she was nervous in the days leading up to her boudoir session (a completely normal feeling for first-timers), once she stepped into the studio she said her fears melted away. “I was nervous, I mostly knew what to expect but was still a bit jittery and unsure of myself; I’ve never done anything like this before. But there is an aura in the studio of calm and acceptance that I felt the moment I walked in.” It’s a priority for us to make our clients feel confident, comfortable and safe in our studio!

When asked about her overall boudoir experience, Emily said she knew she was in good hands.

“Adrian was so fun to work with, yet professional, I knew I was in good hands. The session itself seemed to fly by. She demonstrated all the poses and explained very clearly how to execute them and made modifications to them as I needed.”

As for Emily’s favorite part of her session, she said it was the sneak peek of her own photos that made her day. “I think my favorite part of the session was the first image Adrian took. As she showed it to me on the camera, I wouldn’t have believed it was me if I hadn’t just been in that pose. The muscle lines she captured, the soft play of light and shadow, the fall of my hair, I’ve never seen myself in such a flattering light.” We love giving our clients a glimpse at how amazing they look in front of the camera!
