Unexpectedly Empowering Boudoir Session

Today we’re featuring Vanessa, an avid reader, cook, and lover of the outdoors! Vanessa came to our South Jersey photography studio to gift herself a reconnection to her body; Vanessa’s girlfriend also made an appearance for a few of the shots, and the connection between them was palpable! That was only the beginning of this sexy, fun-filled boudoir session.

When Vanessa arrived the morning of her boudoir session, she admits she was nervous about hair and makeup with Kayla. “I wear very little makeup in my real life and my hair pretty much does what it does.  So often when I’ve had my hair or makeup done, I’ve not liked it.  It doesn’t look like me.” But once Kayla was finished, Vanessa says she was more than pleasantly surprised by the turnout. “This makeup looked so good!!!  Like me but amplified.  And it was so light!  Not at all heavy and cakey like I’ve had makeup look before.  The artist did such a good job of not only listening to my wants but UNDERSTANDING them — which I think is just such a testament to the quality of people Adrian works with.”

Vanessa brought several fun, edgy outfits for her boudoir session, including a leather bra and handcuffs both from Honey Birdette, and elbow-length opera gloves. Vanessa says she didn’t have any particular theme in mind for her session, and instead planned to get Adrian’s input on a vibe for her boudoir photographs. “I honestly didn’t have any particular idea in mind — I wanted to be flexible, to go with the flow and to hear what Adrian’s vision was.  For me, it was the best way to go — it felt spontaneous and real.”

While Vanessa admits she was a little apprehensive about “facing” the current stage of her body during her session, she says Adrian helped her to see the absolute beauty in her physique.

“I’d had some boudoir photography done before (and liked it) but not since having a baby, solidly breaching my 40’s, and having a several-inch long cancer scar on my boob.  It felt like a lot to deal with — like there was this risk of having to actually SEE my body, not through whatever kind filters my brain put on it – that’d I’d have to actually face how it looked and there’d be nowhere to hide.  I was also carrying a little body disconnect from having had a baby and just getting a new overall shape as a result.  The minute I was in the studio, Adrian’s easy and sense of humor wiped it all away. I felt so pumped up by her perspective on beauty and body acceptance that I felt totally at ease.”

Of her overall boudoir experience, Vanessa says it was a blast. “It was so far beyond expectation.  I think somehow, I expected it to be work — but instead it was SO relaxed and fun.” Boudoir is meant to be fun and relaxed, and all about about body acceptance and appreciation!

“If you’re considering a boudoir session of your own, Vanessa says time is of the essence. “DO IT.  Don’t walk, run.  It felt like therapy to me — from the pampering to getting to reconnect with body.  I love that I’m going to have a physical keepsake to remind me of that feeling.”

At House of Rowan, we pride ourselves on making our clients feel safe, comfortable, and completely taken care of.  Vanessa says she chose us for professionalism and the confidence that we would pull off just the look she was going for. “I love Adrian’s work — the fact that in encompasses and celebrates all body types and ages — and that it’s so unique to each person.  So many of her pictures make me feel like I know something special and intimate about the people she’s photographing.  I also think she’s the consummate professional and I really wanted and needed to work with someone I could completely trust.”
