Hex Your Ex VibeZ (A Witchy Boudoir Session)

new jersey boudoir photography

This client was so excited, she asked to write her own blog about her session in our South Jersey Photography studio. Nicole is mama to two beautiful little boys, a part-time fitness instructor, and a writer who maintains a personal blog filled with poetry inspired by motherhood. Nicole, take it away!

When I booked my boudoir session with Adrian I knew immediately the theme I was looking for: sexy, witch-of-the-woods aesthetic. Think melting candles, lots of black, hex your ex vibes. In what other world or frame of time would I be able to spend a few hours dedicated entirely to me being pampered and hyped up with compliments all while wearing a PVC bodysuit and planchette pasties?! Well, this in-your-dreams scenario is 100% truth.

I have a confession to make: before my boudoir session I’d never even owned a quality piece of lingerie, nor had I ever felt like I needed a quality piece of lingerie; but walking into the House of Rowan boutique a few weeks before my scheduled session was like walking into a candy store (or a shoe store, or the local wine mart) – I wanted it all!

I ended up purchasing two outfits from the boutique and a wildcard outfit from Amazon: a mesh black bra (Regalia Katja Bandeau Chunky Strap Bra – House of Rowan Boutique) I paired with high waist purple and lace strappy bottoms (Muriel Lace HW Brief – House of Rowan Boutique), a timeless mesh black bodysuit with the hottest leg straps (Muriel Lace HW Brief – House of Rowan Boutique), and an over-the-top black PVC leather bodysuit (Amazon.com: winying Womens One Piece Shiny Metallic PVC Leather Halter Neck Zipper Crotch Leotard Bodysuit: Clothing).

The evening before my boudoir shoot I was filled with nerves and that nagging voice that whispered “what if I don’t look good?” but when I walked in the next morning and Kayla greeted me with a big smile and a table of makeup and hair supplies at the ready, the excitement took over.  She was so kind and already knew exactly what I wanted (it was obvious she’d looked over the pins I’d put on the private Pinterest board Adrian created after my consultation). Two hours later I’d been transformed into a smokey-eyed, hex your ex, you’re-afraid-of-me-but-also-think-I’m-sexy, witchy badass. Yes, all wrapped into one.

I slipped into my first outfit, stepped into the studio, and Adrian made sure the temperature was comfortable and asked if I had any questions or concerns (she never stopped checking on me, from the time I booked my boudoir session to the time the camera stopped clicking). The entire session was smooth sailing with Adrian demonstrating every pose, hyping me up with all the hype woman feels (“gorgeous!” “beautiful!”), and helping me up and down from the fireplace mantle when I was in a giant, luxurious tutu.

Adrian hit the witch aesthetic out of the park and then some. She’d spent two hours the evening before my session melting candles at the base of the studio’s fireplace – it doesn’t get much more dedicated than that. The candles are now a permanent fixture so you’re guaranteed to see them in your own session.

All hair, makeup, and studio magic aside, Adrian helped me discover a confidence I didn’t know I possessed. I’ve never been very bold, self-assured, and certainly never outright sassy about showing my body with an “I’m the shit” attitude (and birthing two kids can dampen that notion even further), but during my boudoir session I felt just that: I’m the shit. I can be sexy. I DESERVE this. And that is the real magic.

So, if you’re thinking about a boudoir session with Adrian, do it. Do. It. Do it for you, with a possible side bonus of “my partner is gonna love this.” Because your body deserves to be celebrated, just as it is.
