Feature on South Jersey Review

Stephanie Middleton wrote the sweetest article for the South Jersey Review about Adrian Rowan Photography and the boudoir experience we offer.

Adrian Rowan Photography, located in the heart of Merchantville, NJ, offers women a luxurious, empowering experience through boudoir photography, a lingerie and gift shop, and Ladies Night Out events.

Adrian, a professional photographer with more than 15 years of experience, is passionate about her work as a boudoir photographer and small business owner. “Women are strong and powerful, but our society shames them for being sexual,” she explains. “Having the confidence to embrace sexuality has always been a huge part of my life, and encouraging others to explore and accept their own interests is important to me. It’s incredibly empowering.” Through her work, she focuses on promoting confidence through sexuality, however her clients define the word.

Perks clients can expect to receive begin well before the actual photo session. “I take care of everything for them so all they have to do is show up and be pampered,” Adrian says. She offers an in-person consultation and plenty of prep guides so clients are well prepared and know what to expect before they ever set foot in the studio. And she acts as a “personal fan club” throughout the entire process.

After the session, Adrian also helps clients choose their best photos during an in-person reveal appointment—instead of the usual impersonal online gallery, which most photographers offer. “My clients hire me for the experience and my artistic skill, so I don’t leave them hanging when it’s time to create their wall art and albums. I assist them in curating their selection and deliver bespoke products they can cherish forever.”

Adrian has plenty of photography experience under her belt, but her work wasn’t always devoted to boudoir. She spent her earlier years as a military photographer, running the studio at the Pentagon for the Marine Corps, where she took official photos for such notable people as the Secretary of the Navy. She also worked as a photographer for Dover Air Force Base and the NJ National Guard. “My past career positions have helped me be technically proficient in my field and cultivate a higher level of professionalism to offer my clients,” says Adrian.

Adrian officially launched her own photography business and established an LLC in 2017; she transitioned to focusing solely on boudoir in 2019. During this early period of her business, she worked out of a studio in Haddonfield, NJ. But by July 2020, a new chapter had begun—Adrian purchased and began renovating a Victorian house in Merchantville.

“I had been looking to find a location to have my studio and my home combined with a storefront,” says Adrian. “I had my son in March, and then the pandemic struck. I was confined to my house with my child and started to notice a lot of things that didn’t work for me in my former home.”

Her grandfather, whom she credits with instilling in her an early love of art and photography, gave her the nudge she needed to make the move, encouraging her to pursue her dream. When she found the house in Merchantville, a quaint town nestled between Pennsauken and Cherry Hill, she knew it was the one. “It hit every checkbox of my dream home, and the functionality for the business was beyond ideal.”

In addition to her photography services, Adrian recently announced the launch of House of Rowan, a lingerie and gift shop that will be run alongside the studio for convenient one-stop shopping. “While running a boudoir business, the biggest questions have always been ’What do I wear and where should I shop?’ So the natural next step was to solve this problem for my clients!”

On top of everything else she offers, Adrian will continue to host Ladies Night Out events for members of her photography VIP group and her boutique clients, once social distancing allows. In the past, she has hosted yoga classes, tarot readings, spa nights, and other activities for a fun, relaxing night out with friends and other women.

Adrian Rowan Photography is so much more than a photo studio—it’s a full-fledged experience meant to empower, uplift, and celebrate women.
